FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE “We Salute” and “Children’s Chance” at the Carolina Q
Cup In addition to the two professional divisions at the Carolina Q Cup competition, the event will also feature the “We Salute” and “Children’s Chance” competitions. “We Salute” honors the men and women in uniform at home and abroad who make great sacrifices on behalf of their fellow Americans. This is a chance to let them know that we support them and believe in them as they stand watch. The “We Salute” competition, sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, will feature cooking teams from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, Lexington Sheriff’s Department, Richland Sheriff’s Department, Columbia Fire Department, Air National Guard, and the SC Highway Patrol. They will be preparing and serving Boston butts on the grill in their competition. The “Children’s Chance” competition will be sponsored by Sticky Fingers, South Carolina’s own home-grown restaurant known for its hickory-smoked ribs, wings, barbecue pork and five signature barbecue sauces and seasonings. Children’s Chance kids and their parents will prepare barbequed chicken for their competition. Everyone participating in the Children’s Chance competition will be a winner. Children’s Chance is a non-profit organization established in 1996 to assist children with cancer and their families in South Carolina with their non medical needs. The organization raises money to fund a variety of programs to meet the emotional, psychological and financial needs of the pediatric cancer patient and their families. Children's Chance is the only statewide organization that offers programs that focus completely on non medical assistance for the entire family during a child's cancer treatment and recovery. The Children’s Chance facility is located at 609 Sims Avenue in Columbia.
